Greetings!

We had a short week with MAP testing mixed in, so as we navigated the schedule, the kids mainly worked on research projects. So far they are looking good. Next week we will display them. In science we hoisted a model of our solar system outside the classroom and marched off planet distances as well. It turns out our solar system in scale feet goes well-beyond our campus. We could only step to Saturn.

3A lucked into in an upper school science experiment. The question: Does chewing gum help or harm mathematical problem solving skills? The kids eagerly volunteered to chew gum in the name of science. We’re waiting for the data to be crunched and published. I will let you know the outcome.

Our reading this week included an exploration of salt. Ask your child what interesting facts were discovered about salt. For example, the word salary comes from the Ancient Roman word for a soldier’s pay, Salarium. Hence the saying “Being worth one’s salt (or not).” The book is available in the RAZ Kids’ book room Level O. Fascinating stuff, salt.

Enjoy this week’s snapshot.

Enjoy your weekend too,

Mr. Johnson
