Greetings!

Our creative writing unit is done! The kids wrote marvelous stories! I am really proud of each and every writer! Bravo 3rd Graders!

Our reading this week included guided sessions to better summarize stories. We used a method called Somebody, Wanted, But, So which allowed the reader to sort story features for concise recall or retelling. The kids really took to the strategy. Next week we will add Then to the mix. For now, you too might exercise this approach when asking your child about a book, movie or event.

Our Lower School Science Fair is May 6. Third grade started discussing our project, which included an activity about health hazards from air pollution. Next week, I will show you lesson in action and explain the project details.

Linked here is an interview with Adam Grant who wrote Originals – How Non-Conformist Move the World. The book describes, among many things, how establishing values over rules can yield more appealing outcomes in children and adults. Grant also claims procrastination can occasionally be a worthwhile strategy.

National Public Radio said, "Adam Grant draws on studies and stories spanning a range of disciplines to explain how to recognize a good idea, speak up, build allies, choose a time to act, and manage doubts."

Maybe the interview will prompt you to explore his book and add some original ideas to your parenting or personal skill set.

Enjoy the week’s snapshots and, as always, stay safe!

Mr. Johnson
