Greetings!

Last week we started a new routine called Time Travel. On Mondays, we randomly choose a grade to briefly visit and observe. Time travel lasts five minutes and the kids must remain absolutely silent, unless told otherwise. This week we visited the 7th (3A) and 11th grades (3B). Gaining perspective and an appreciation for the spectrum of learning are why we travel to other grades. So far so good.

Our persuasive letters and states of matter reports are done. The kids did a terrific job on both. A few photos from the presentations are included. The next assignments will be creative writing and a simple machine survey. I’ll explain more about those next week.

My teaching credential program is entering the last stage, yay! Now I will need to submit videos of selected lessons to my program. My instructor will be the only viewer of the videos. If you’d like me to not have your child shown in a recorded activity, please let me know. In any case, after demo videos are viewed, I will delete the files.

IN SITES! The ELA textbook we occasionally use has a practice site. If you’d like some additional work for your child, have a look at the Voyages in English online practice resource here. It’s also meant to be fun, but remember to keep at-home 3rd grade study time to 30 minutes or less.

Here’s our lesson "plan" for Mar. 7 - 11, 2016 (revised Mar. 9).

Enjoy your weekend!

Mr. Johnson
